It’s that time again, the engagement parties are over and it’s all about the bridal showers and wedding parties. Wedding season is in full swing and many of you will be dreading picking that special outfit. Nobody wants to spend lots of money on a dress that you will never wear again but unfortunately it happens all the time.
Here’s our step by step instructions to picking out the perfect outfit for a wedding.
1. Pick out clothes that you actually like! I know this sounds simple but when choosing wedding attire people tend to forget how they usually dress and just choose something they think is appropriate. STOP IT. Go around the store and choose items that you really like. Hint: dresses are the most acceptable attire for women.
2. Once you have a good stack of clothes go through them again and decide what is appropriate and what isn’t. The wedding invitation and location is a great indicator of how formal or casual you should go.
3. Try on your favorites and add some accessories. Trying on the clothing alone isn’t good enough. You don’t want to be running around the day of the wedding because you realized that your jewelry, shoes, and jacket don’t actually go with what you bought. If you already have jewelry and shoes you want to wear slip them in your bag and bring them with you. Your accessories are the easiest way to dress up or dress down your outfit. Try buying a dress that you will wear again and again and add some elegant jewelry and a nice jacket.
Here are a few general rules when dressing for a wedding or wedding related party.
- Do not wear jeans.
- A skirt or dress (depending on your height) should not be more than an inch or two above the knee.
- Leave the skin tight dress for the club, not celebrating someone’s eternal love.
